ACIV Announcements: Tuesday Meeting, Fundraiser this Wednesday, Imago Dei, DPMs, Alternative Spring Break

Hey there ACIVers!

This Tuesday, Dave Ruark, the Mid-Michigan Regional Director of InterVarsity, will be speaking to us about Prayer :) After we talk about Prayer, we will be having a concert of Prayer next week.

BUFFALO WILD WINGS FUNDRAISER
Don't forget, ACIV is having a fundraiser this WEDNESDAY all day at Buffalo Wild Wings. We need 400-500 people to attend the event so print out the flyers (attached) and pass them out to your friends, roommates, classmates, floormates, etc. The flyer that is attached is a one page printout with 4 flyers on it each (for those of you that have asked).

Daily Prayer Meetings take place Tuesdays-Fridays at 3pm in the Alumni Chapel. They're about half an hour each session and there's always going to be someone else there (either from ACIV or RCCF) running the prayer meeting. So if you have time from 3-3:30, GO TO DPMS!

Interested in Alternative Spring Break in Detroit?
University Baptist Church and several other organizations have invited ACIV members to take part in their Detroit ASB. If you are interested, please talk to Dilo (dilobenj17@yahoo.com) for applications and more information. Applications are due February 7th !

We have a little more than a week until the ACIV Buffalo Wild Wings Fundraiser!
With every person that visits Buffalo Wild Wings (360 Albert Ave-- north of the MSU campus) and presents the flyer, they will take 20% of the total bill and donate it to ACIV.

Here's the issue though: they want us to bring in at least about 400 people to the event -- so we have a lot of advertising to do.
Some suggestions: spread them to your floormates, classmates, church family, other organizations you are apart of. Invite people to the FB event, remind people a couple days before and the day of to go, have a big dinner with friends, ask your RA if you guys could do a floor dinner, etc!

Remember, the more people we can go to the fundraiser, the more donations we are able to receive to help with retreats, conferences, and 2+ events!

Monday, January 25, 2010 (TOMORROW) is the LAST day to sign up for the Imago Dei - Asian American conference.

Not sure what Imago Dei is about?
Imago Dei is a conference relating directly to Asians and Asian Americans. Asian specific chapters from all over the Great Lakes East are will be coming together to learn about their identity as an Asian, their identity as an Asian-American, and their identity as a non-Asian in an Asian group.

The cost of the conference is $116 BUT if you are interested in going and you need financial help, please talk to BenLow (ben@benjaminlow.net)!
Do not let money stop you from attending -- there are scholarships available on need basis.
(and if we get 400 people to attend the fundraiser on February 3, we'll have more money to help students out with future conferences!)

Imago Dei takes place 7:00pm Feb 5 - Noon Feb 7.

Applications will be available starting Tuesday, January 26 at Large Group.

Please prayerfully consider if God is leading you to participate in this Spring Break opportunity.
There is a maximum cap of 15 people that may attend so return your applications to Rev. Pickens as soon as you can. Rev. Pickens will also be available on Tuesday to answer any questions or concerns you may have.

ACIV Announcements: Large Group, Silver Bells, Hot Pot Dinner

I hope we all had an amazing weekend at Compelling and I encourage you all to keep reflecting and sharing with others what you have learned and what God is compelling you to do with the knowledge he has given you!

Don't forget that this Tuesday is our large group meeting!
Guest speaker, Patricia Zandstra will be coming in to speak to us about what FASTING is and why it is done. The night will conclude with a challenge for all of us to think about and, possibly, take a part in.

THIS FRIDAY we will be gathering at BenLow's place for dinner!
Afterwards, we will be going to Downtown Lansing to Silver Bells for the annual Lighting of the City. And after that, we'll be heading back to either BenLow's for a movie night there or ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE!
5pm dinner at Ben's :: 7pm to Silver Bells :: 10ishpm to the rest of the night :)

No LG this week, Harvest Party Friday

Hi there ACIV!

For those of you that were not at the last Large Group meeting, there is NO LARGE GROUP tomorrow!

Instead of meeting on Tuesday, we will be meeting on Friday with all the other InterVarsity groups at MSU!
On Friday is the Fall Harvest Party. It will take place at Faith Church from 7pm-10pm.
There will be caramel apple making, pumpkin carving, and some games to play!

If you need a ride or if you are able to drive people, please contact Dilo at 248-252-8028.

Also, DRESS UP!
It's Halloween after all!

So..."What's the point of this party?" you might ask.
Well, the point of this party is not only to gather all the MSU InterVarsity chapters together to have a joint event, but it is also for the International students on campus! MSU has tons of International students and InterVarsity works with some of them. When they are in America, they see all the holidays that Americans celebrate but they don't know how to celebrate them or why we have them. So this is a GREAT OPPORTUNITY to have a Harvest Party (or a Christian Halloween party) for them to have them experience a couple things that Americans do for fun for Halloween.

So on Friday, instead of just hanging out with ACIV people and the people that we know, hang out with your conversation partner (if you have one), or pair up with an International student that doesn't have a partner and work with them in carving pumpkins or making a caramel apple or playing some games!
